Cablevision Deploys Free WiFi In Orange, Rockland Counties

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/22/2009 10:39:31 AM

Cablevision Systems continues its rollout of its free wireless Internet access, deploying its Optimum WiFi service to Rockland and Orange Counties in New York.

The newly activated areas, focusing on where people shop, dine, commute and congregate, cover areas in Nanuet, New City, Nyack, Pearl River, Spring Valley, Suffern, Central Valley, Greenwood Lake, Harriman, Monroe, Tuxedo, Warwick, and Woodbury.

The service is also available at New Jersey Transit train station platforms and parking lots, including: Harriman, Nanuet, Pearl River, Sloatsburg, Spring Valley, Suffern, and Tuxedo.
Cablevision has already made its Optimum WiFi service available in Westchester, Bergen and Passaic Counties and hundreds of commuter rail platforms and station parking lots across New Jersey Transit, Metro North and Long Island Railroad facilities.

The operator expects to complete deployment of its $300 million project to bring wireless access to broadband customers throughout its entire New York metropolitan service area by early next 2010 at no additional costs to its customers.

"Unlike many expensive cell phone data plans that can cost upwards of $100 per month, Optimum WiFi is free and more than twice as fast as many cellular networks," said Cablevision senior vice president of wireless product development Kevin Curran in a statement. "Now, Optimum Online customers in Rockland and Orange counties have unfettered access to the nation's largest and most advanced WiFi network in downtown areas, near parks, and at train stations."
