Gold Cup Final Glitters For Fox Soccer Channel

Futbol-Centric Service Scores Top Mark With Mexico-U.S. Match

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/30/2009 5:01:00 PM

Fox Soccer Channel netted its highest-rated telecast with the Gold Cup final last Sunday.

Mexico's 5-0 thrashing of the U.S. at Giants Stadium on July 26 attracted a 0.8 household average, FSC's best mark since it became Nielsen-rated in October 2008. All told, some 267,000 homes checked out the match on the soccer-centric service.
The game also scored a record 0.8 against men 18 to 49, according to FSC officials. It generated a similar number with men 18 to 34 and a 0.7 with guys 25 to 54.
Previously, FSC earned solid ratings for other matches, notably Barclays Premier League telecasts of Liverpool vs. Chelsea on Feb. 1 with a 0.5 household rating and a 0.4 for Manchester United-Chelsea showdown on Jan. 11.
FSC's Gold Cup final numbers pale in comparison to those produced by Univision, which notched 5.4 million viewers last Sunday.
