Netflix Gets 'Lost,' Other ABC Fare

Deal Follows Disney Channel Agreement

Netflix announced an agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group to make several ABC primetime series -- including the first five seasons of Lost -- available over the video-rental company's Internet-streaming feature.

The agreement extends the online relationship between Netflix and Disney-ABC Television Group, which announced their first digital-licensing deal last September covering original series from Disney Channel.

Under the terms of the extended deal with Disney-ABC Television Group, Netflix will offer the first five seasons of ABC franchise Lost, seasons four and five of Desperate Housewives; season five of Grey's Anatomy; and seasons one and two of ABC Studios action-adventure fantasy series Legend of the Seeker.

Many of the ABC episodes, including the first four seasons of Lost, became available from Netflix beginning August 1. The rest will be available starting in September.

Netflix already offers shows from several Disney Channel series, including the Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, Jonas and Sonny with a Chance, available the day after broadcast.

"We're excited about this new agreement since it builds on a strong foundation with Disney-ABC Television Group," Netflix vice president of content acquisition Robert Kyncl said.

Other TV programmers Netflix has content-distribution deals with include Starz Entertainment, CBS and MTV Networks.

All told, Netflix currently offers more than 12,000 titles available for viewing on PCs and Macs, as well as TV-connected devices including TiVo DVRs, Microsoft's Xbox 360, LG TVs and Blu-ray players and Sony Bravia HDTVs. Netflix also expects to offer the feature over Apple iPhone devices and Nintendo Wii game consoles, according to an industry source with knowledge of the company's plans.
