DIY Network is producing what it calls the first interactive home-renovation series, Run My Renovation, with viewers starting to participate on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Viewers will vote on a variety of design elements -- flooring to fixtures, cabinets to cook tops, moldings to mantelpieces, and more -- for the homeowner's room of choice at a section of DIYNetwork.com. Thirteen homeowners and 13 different rooms have been pre-selected to take part, the network said.
Online components include: ongoing two-week features on a new room, video pleas from each family and a photo gallery of the rooms in desperate need of an overhaul.Once the votes are cast, Run My Renovation will incorporate those home improvement choices and document the drastic transformations in a 13-episode series premiering on Scripps Networks-owned DIY in mid-2010.
"Run My Renovation takes interactive television to the next level by allowing viewers to become backseat contractors," Andy Singer, DIY Network's head of programming, said in a statement. "We're looking forward to having America decide what goes into total strangers' renovations."
Aug. 20 is also when Blog Cabin, the interactive homebuilding series, returns to DIY.
