'Burn Notice' Season Finale Blazes Before USA Series' Best 7.6 Million Viewers

Third-Season Concluder Teams With 'Royal Pains' To Produce Network's Best Thursday Night Ever

The third-season finale of Burn Notice became the most-watched series telecast in USA Network history.

The Aug. 6 installment of the spy series, starring Jeffrey Donovan, averaged 7.6 million viewers in the 9 p.m. hour, according to Nielsen Media Research data. Gauged on a live+ same-day basis, the show topped the premiere performance of The 4400, which drew 7.4 million viewers on July 11, 2004, said USA officials.

Burn Notice, which USA executive said became the most-watched scripted series in cable this summer topping the July 27 episode of TNT's The Closer, also set new records among persons 25 to 54 with 3.5 million and 2.8 million of the 18-to-49 set. The deliveries with all three of those measures were cable's best on Thursday.
The Aug. 6 Burn Notice was the No. 2 show among all programs on TV with persons 25 to 54 and 18 to 34, behind only the So You Think You Can Dance finale on Fox, and was third among person 18 to 49 behind that competition show and CBS's Big Brother. All told, Burn Notice ranked first in all of TV show among men, and male groupings 18 to 34, 18 to 49 and 25 to 54, according to USA officials.
Per usual, Burn Notice also served as a strong lead-in for Hamptons concierge series Royal Pains, which hit series highs among total viewers with 6.7 million watchers and 3 million adults 25 to 54 on Aug. 6.
The strong performances led USA to its best-ever performance in primetime among viewers (6.2 million) and adults 25 to 54 (2.7 million). It was the "characters" network's best primetime performance overall with those groups since July 15, 2006, when it premiered the theatrical, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
