Mun2 Free Preview Scorecard: 67 Million Homes On Aug. 12

Millions Of Viewers Gain Access To U.S.-Mexico World Cup Qualifier

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 8/10/2009 6:24:52 PM

Working with the nation's four largest distributors and other key carriers, mun2's free preview on Aug. 12 will be available to some 67 million homes, giving viewers access to an important FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifying match.
Telemundo's Latino youth cable network, targeting bicultural Hispanics ages 18 to 34, will serve as the English-language home to the U.S.-Mexico World Cup qualifier Wednesday, with coverage set for 3:55 p.m. (ET).
The match marks the first major live sporting event for mun2, which currently counts some 32 million subscribers. The network holds English-language rights to the game at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where the U.S. has never won a CONCACAF qualifying match. Telemundo is simulcasting the game in Spanish.
Parent NBC Universal said it has reached deals for mun2 with AT&T U-verse TV, Charter, Comcast, DirecTV, Dish Network and Time Warner Cable, among other distributors.
Cablevision and Verizon's FiOS TV already distribute mun2 to the vast majority of their subscribers, according to officials at the programmer. Moreover, RCN, which just reached a distribution deal with mun2 parent NBC Universal, will launch the service on Aug. 12.
The match will be preceded by a special edition of The mun2 Shuffle, featuring pre-game fun facts and taped musical performances. After the match, the network will air mun2 presents-The Best of mun2, featuring highlights of such original fare as The Chicas Project, The mun2 The Hook Up, Reventon Countdown and 18 and Over, among others.
