Cox Picks Wireless-Messaging Platform

Operator Will Use Interop Technologies' Solutions To Support Wireless Services

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 8/31/2009 1:53:01 PM

Cox Communications, which is expected to launch a mobile voice and data service later this year, has selected Interop Technologies to provide wireless messaging and Internet solutions.

Interop will provide the operator with an array of solutions, including Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) systems, wireless access protocol (WAP) gateways and a hosted Common Short Code (CSC) gateway.

"SMS, MMS, short-code messaging, and access to the mobile Internet are essential to the Cox customer experience," Dane Dickie, Cox executive director of wireless product development, said in a statement. "Our wireless solutions must be reliable and scalable to ensure we consistently deliver the leading-edge, converged services that are at the core of the Cox wireless experience."
Leading up to the launch of its own wireless network, Cox has spent about $550 million on spectrum licenses in Federal Communications Commission auctions and will invest even more than that on the buildout of a 3G CDMA (code division multiple access) network in parts of 15 states.

Interop Technologies, based in Fort Myers, Fla., has 55 telecom operator customers.
