Comcast Debuts 32 More HD Networks In Oregon, Southwest Washington

Operator Now Offers More Than 100 High-Def Channels in Area

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 9/1/2009 4:07:20 PM

Comcast launched 32 new high-definition channels in the Oregon and southwest Washington market, to bring its HD lineup to more than 100 in the region.

The operator also is offering 23 new Spanish-language channels, five new standard-definition channels and four international premium channels.

Comcast hit 101 HD channels in the Seattle area in July, and said it would expand the lineup to the rest of the state through the end of 2009.

According to Comcast, the new programming is being delivered in bandwidth freed up by Project Cavalry, which uses low-cost digital transport adapters to let basic subscribers view digital programming on analog TV sets.

"Our high-definition content has exploded in the past year, and we hear from customers that it is exactly what they want from us as more consumers make the switch to HD," Curt Henninger, Comcast's regional senior vice president for Comcast of Oregon and SW Washington, said in a statement. "In addition, our ability to offer more and more niche programming provides viewers with the ability to watch shows more closely aligned with their interests."

The 32 new HD channels are: the Outdoor Channel HD, Tennis Channel HD, CBS College Sports HD, Big Ten Network HD, ESPNU HD, NBA TV HD, Headline News HD, TruTV HD, BET HD, Comedy Central HD, CMT HD, VH1 HD, MTV HD, TCM HD, MSNBC HD, Starz Edge HD, Starz Kids & Family HD, Starz Comedy HD, HBO2 HD, HBO Signature HD, HBO Family HD, HBO Latino HD, HBO Comedy HD, HBO Zone HD, More MAX HD, Action MAX HD, Thriller MAX HD, Showtime 2 HD, Showtime Showcase HD, Showtime Extreme HD, TMC HD, and TMC Xtra HD.

Comcast also is launching Hallmark Movie Channel, Ovation, Retirement Living, C-SPAN 3 and Sportsman Channel; it launched ESPNU in August.

The Spanish-language channels include TeleFutura, Estrella TV (Portland DMA only), Utilisima, HITN, Canal52MX, Mexicanal, Multimedios, TVE, WAPA America, AYM Sports, SUR Mexico, TeleFormula, Gran Cine, De Pelicula, De Pelicula Classico, HTV Musica, TeleHit, RitmoSon Latino, Teleitmo, Bandamax, EWTN en Espanol, La Familia and TBN Enlace.

Comcast's new international premium channels are TV Japan, SBTN (Vietnamese), TV5 Monde (French) and GMA Pinoy TV (Filipino).
