RGB Repackages Video Platform For TV Anywhere

Video Multiprocessing Gateway Will Convert MPEG-2 to MPEG-4

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 9/2/2009 12:01:00 AM

RGB Networks is relaunching its telco-oriented video-processing platform, positioning it as a way to let cable operators and other video service providers deliver video to multiple devices, including TVs, PCs and mobile devices, over any network.

The company's Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG), formerly known as the Modular Video Processor, combines transcoding, transrating, grooming, digital ad insertion, ingest and aggregation features. The VMG's initial content-repurposing capability will be delivered via a plug-in module that can convert between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 formats.

The VMG "can be applied to a large number of video streams simultaneously, therefore dramatically reducing the complexity of supporting different sources, networks and devices while ensuring that programs appear as picture-perfect as possible," RGB's vice president of product marketing Ramin Farassat said in a statement.

Privately held RGB claims to have 170 service provider customers in 25 countries. Investors include Comcast Interactive Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Accel Partners, Focus Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and MCVP.
