Logo To Go Dark In Support Of Equality March

Network To Stop Broadcasting For Four Hours On Oct. 11

by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 9/11/2009 1:09:10 PM

Logo will "go dark" for four hours on Oct. 11 in support of an Equality Across America-sponsored rights march in Washington D.C.
The "National Equality March 2009" event, which takes place the weekend of Oct 10-11, seeks to shine a light on the equality movement for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, according to the gay-themed network.
Logo's blackout from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 marks the first time the network will not broadcast television. Instead, a graphic message will urge viewers to visit the Logo website for information on the March and how they can get involved on a local level.
"The National Equality March resonates strongly with Logo's gay and straight audience because we all expect equality in all aspects of our lives," said Lisa Sherman, executive vice president & general manager for Logo in a statement. "Our unprecedented action of ‘going dark' underscores the significance of the event and what Equality Across America is hoping to achieve. Supporting the March reaffirms Logo's ongoing commitment to the campaign for equality for everyone."
