Telecom New Zealand To Sell TiVo DVRs

Deal Lets Telco's Broadband Customers Download Movies, TV Shows

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 9/17/2009 11:19:34 AM

Telecom New Zealand, the country's largest telecommunications service provider, will begin selling TiVo digital video recorders to customers starting in November.

The distribution deal was inked between the telco and Hybrid Television Services, the exclusive licensee of TiVo products in Australia and New Zealand. TiVo's other international distribution partners include Australia's Seven Networks and Cablevision Mexico.

With the TiVo DVRs, Telecom New Zealand will let broadband customers download movies and TV shows as well as access New Zealand's HD free-to-air channels. Content downloaded to the TiVos will be unmetered, meaning it won't count toward customers' monthly data-usage allowance.

Telecom New Zealand will offer the TiVo DVR plus a wireless adapter in a bundle for NZD$920 (about $650 U.S.) from its retail stores, customer service channels and online at www.telecom.co.nz/mytivo.
