WAPA America To Air Puerto Rico-Cuba Baseball World Cup Game Tonight

Gains Rights Through Partnership With Universal Sports

MCN Staff -- Multichannel News, 9/18/2009 11:24:00 AM

WAPA America, continuing its push into sports programming, will televise the game between Puerto Rico and Cuba tonight from the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup.
First pitch for the telecast, which will feature Spanish-language commentary from WAPA sports anchor Albert Cruz, is at 8 p.m. (ET).
The second-round contest, scheduled in Amsterdam as part of the 38th annual biennial world championships, which will conclude in Italy next week, comes to WAPA America, via a partnership with Universal Sports.

Last week, WAPA America, via Universal Sports, presented the World Boxing Championships in Spanish from Sept. 8 through Sept. 13 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The channel, which carries the best programming of WAPA-TV, Puerto Rico's leading broadcast network, currently reaches some 3 million homes.
WAPA-TV is a portfolio company of Leo Hindery's private equity firm InterMedia Partners, which is a joint venture partner with NBC Universal in Universal Sports.
