Wins For Roles In FX's 'Damages,' AMC's 'Breaking Bad'

Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 9/20/2009 10:47:31 PM

Glenn Close Sunday won for the second year in a row the Emmy Award for best lead actress in a drama for her role in FX's series Damages.

Bryan Cranston also scored a repeat for the best actor in a drama for his potrayal of Walt White, a high school chemistry teacher who turns crystal-meth chef, as a means to support his family after learning he has cancer.

Close beat out fellow nominees Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters); Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer); Glenn Close (Damages); Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men); Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order) and Holly Hunter (Saving Grace).

Cranston topped Jon Hamm, who was nominated again for his portrayal of Mad Men's top ad guy, the troubled Don Draper; Michael C. Hall as the lead character in Showtime' serial killer show Dexter; Gabriel Byrne as the head shrink in HBO's In Treatment; Hugh Laurie's cranky Gregory House in Fox's House; and Simon Baker for CBS's The Mentalist, broadcast's top new show during the 2008-09 season.
