Time Warner Cable Hits 100 HD Channels Across Northeast Region

Operator Offers Triple-Digit HD Lineup in Upstate New York and New England Divisions

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 10/20/2009 2:20:25 PM

Time Warner Cable announced that it now offers at least 100 HD channels to subscribers across its upstate New York and New England in cable systems, with the operator citing switched digital video as a key factor for the near-tripling of the high-definition lineups in those division over the last year.

Time Warner Cable recently added 15 HD channels in its Albany, N.Y., system, and offers customers at least 100 HD channels in its systems in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Albany and Portland, Maine. The company said most of those channels are offered at no additional cost as part of its digital-cable packages.

In May, TWC's Central New York division began offering its customers in the Syracuse-area the ability to watch up to 100 high-definition channels as of May 31, widening the rollout over the summer to the southern tier, the Utica/Rome area and northern New York systems.

The cable provider is facing new competition in upstate New York from Verizon. The telco earlier this month launched FiOS TV -- touting 121 HD channels -- as well as Internet and voice service to about 50,000 households in central New York in parts of Clay, East Syracuse, North Syracuse, Cicero, DeWitt, Salina, Camillus and Fleming.
