Discovery En Español To Showcase Documentary On Mexican ‘Corridos'

Film Explores Popular Music Genre, Often Associated With Drug Trade

Laura Martinez -- Multichannel News, 10/20/2009 6:54:17 PM

Discovery en Español on Nov. 1 will premiere La ley del corrido, a one-hour documentary on the history -and popularity- of "corridos," the popular music genre hailing from Northern Mexico, and often associated with the drug trade.

Produced by Discovery en Español, under the direction of Michela Giorelli, La ley takes its cameras into the trenches, following closely the work of Los Canelos de Durango, a band hailing from the state of Sinaloa, home of one of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels.

The documentary, which features interviews on both sides of the border, includes testimonials from other important players in the genre, such as Los Tigres del Norte and Los Tucanes de Tijuana.

Although the premiere date is set for Nov. 1 (9 PM ET/PT), La ley del corrido was uploaded onto the Internet in four parts, allowing YouTube visitors to watch the documentary in full.
