Arris will show off a way to let cable operators deploy symmetrical Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) services for business customers using an existing DOCSIS provisioning system.
The company will demonstrate the solution with partners Incognito Software and Teknovus at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009 Oct. 28-30 in Denver.
Arris' DOCSIS Control Interface -- together with its FTTMax EPON optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU) equipment -- allows operators to deploy symmetrical EPON with their existing DOCSIS provisioning system, instead of creating separate back office functions. The ARRIS DOCSIS Control Interface incorporates middleware from Teknovus, a provider of EPON chips, while the demo will show interoperability with Incognito Software's Broadband Command Center for DOCSIS device provisioning.
"This new functionality will enable cable operators to efficiently serve their customers through an FTTMax Gigabit EPON network," Arris Access & Transport VP and GM Peter Wolff said in a statement.
