Video-encoding systems vendor Imagine Communications has hired former Motorola executive Doug Means as chief operating officer.
Means comes to Imagine after 14 years at Motorola, where he most recently was vice president and general manager of IP video solutions in the Home and Networks Mobility business unit. Prior to that he served as GM of Motorola Broadband's Digital Media Systems, overseeing digital cable headend systems and commercial satellite systems.
Imagine also named Tibet Mimaroğlu as vice president of engineering. Previously, Mimaroğlu was most recently CTO and executive vice president of engineering for Grundig Elektronik, a Turkish manufacturer of TV, set-top boxes and other consumer-electronics products, where he led a multinational engineering team across four global locations.
Founded in 2005 by former BigBand Networks employees, San Diego-based Imagine originally focused on improving the efficiency of constant bit-rate video-on-demand streams before turning to linear TV compression. The company says its ICE Broadcast System video-encoding system is used by three of the top six North American MSOs.
