BigBand Networks is touting an enhancement to its Switched Video Analysis software as offering cable operators additional ways to optimize the vendor's switched digital video systems for efficiency and programming availability.

According to the company, the software lets providers track success rates for tune-in requests on SDV channels; to maximize the number of SDV channels that can be carried in the spectrum (i.e., the oversubscription ratio) without a channel being blocked; and to plan service group and node splits.

The Switched Video Analysis software "provides insight into the behavior of the entire HFC network, which was difficult or impossible to obtain without [switched digital video]," BigBand vice president of marketing John Holobinko said in a statement.

BigBand's switched digital video platform has been deployed or is being deployed to more than 25 million households by seven of the top 10 cable operators in North America, including Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Cablevision Systems and Charter Communications.
