Cablevision Adds Optimum Wi-Fi In Bronx, Brooklyn, Jersey's Essex, Hudson Counties

Service Free To Op's 2.5 Million Optimum Online High-Speed Internet Customers

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 10/29/2009 1:07:04 PM

Cablevision Systems Corp. has completed the deployment of Optimum WiFi in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and New Jersey.

The activations occurred in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and The Bronx, as well as Hoboken, Paterson, Newark, Elizabeth, Weehawken, Union City, and Bayonne, N.J.

Coming on the heels of previous deployments, Cablevision is now offering the company's 2.5 million Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers free wireless Internet access in places where they shop, dine, commute and meet.

Optimum WiFi spans many thousands of access points across the company's New York, New Jersey and Connecticut service areas. It is broadly available on hundreds of commuter rail platforms and station parking lots across New Jersey Transit, Metro North, and the Long Island Railroad. Earlier this week, Cablevision also announced a large-scale indoor deployment of Optimum WiFi in its Madison Square Garden complex.

"In little more than a year, Cablevision has done something truly extraordinary. Through the deployment of Optimum WiFi, we have made fast and free wireless Internet access available to our customers across our service area, in the places where they are most likely to use it, at a time when demands for data on wireless devices are exploding," said Kevin Curran, Cablevision senior vice president of wireless product development, in a statement. "The value and convenience we are delivering today through Optimum WiFi is exceeded only by the potential of the network to transform how our customers interact with all of our digital services in the future."
