Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 11/4/2009 1:19:53 PM

CMT, while continuing its expansion with unscripted fare, is on its way toward taking the scripted plunge, hiring Hollywood veteran Brad Johnson to lead its comedic development.
Johnson, whose resume includes credits for American Dad, Arrested Development, Major Dad and Coach, has been tapped as senior vice president of comedy development.
"Brad has a fantastic track record and has been instrumental in developing and creating some of television's most successful comedies," said CMT head of development Bob Kusbit in a statement. "As a former studio executive, producer and writer, Brad has a unique talent for finding great comedy and is passionate about discovering the next great comedy project for CMT."
Meantime, CMT will adds to its lineup that includes the The Singing Bee, set for a second season in January, Are You Smarter That a Fifth Grader and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team, greenlighting a pair of unscripted adventure series.

The network has ordered 10 episodes apiece of Danger Coast and Gator Country from ITV Studios and 12 Forward Entertainment, respectively. The shows are expected to bow in the second quarter of 2010 as part of CMT's new adventure block.
