SNY Heats Up 'Mets Hot Stove,' Turns Back Clock On 1962-1988 Seasons

Series Returns Nov. 12, Followed By 'Mets Yearbook' Films

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 11/11/2009 2:52:13 PM

SNY will fan the off-season flames with the return of Mets Hot Stove.
The series, covering all the news, notes and rumors surrounding the New York Mets, will bow on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
Hosted by Mets field reporter Kevin Burkhardt, Mets Hot Stove will feature live commentary from a number of panelists. SNY's MLB insider Jon Heyman, the team's centerfielder Carlos Beltran, Newsday's David Lennon and WFAN's Ed Coleman will participate on the first show.
Burkhardt will be joined by a revolving panel of experts, players and management personnel.
Mets Hot Stove will serve as a lead-in to a new series, dubbed Mets Yearbook, at 7:30 p.m. The show features 27 half-hour season highlight films for the Amazins from 1962-1988. Originally produced as marketing films that were presented before community and church groups, many have not aired on television.
First up: the 1971 season, which includes footage of an old-timers' game in which Satchel Paige is seen pitching, and in which Bobby Thomson pitched to Ralph Branca.
Other notable footage showcases a young Ralph Kiner giving batting tips to Ken Singleton and Casey Stengel strolling out to centerfield clubhouse at the Polo Grounds -- a la Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza's final walk during the closing of Shea Stadium.
