Qualcomm is going direct to consumers with the retail launch of FLO TV Personal Television device, with a list price of $250 that will initially include six free months of service, to supplement its distribution agreements with AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

FLO TV Personal TelevisionThe FLO TV handheld device is available through Amazon.com and Best Buy. In addition, Qualcomm said, RadioShack will begin selling the device online and in stores this holiday season.

The 5-ounce device features a 3.5-inch touch-screen. The FLO TV service offers full-length simulcast and time-shifted programming from several broadcast and cable networks, including Adult Swim Mobile, CBS Mobile, CNBC, COMEDY CENTRAL, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, MTV, NBC 2Go and Nickelodeon.

"The FLO TV Personal Television is a dedicated device for consumers' on-the-go lifestyle that is perfect for sharing with friends and family, as well as for personal viewing time," FLO TV president Bill Stone said.

After the initial six-month period, FLO TV subscription plans will be about $15 per month. The offer that includes six months of service is valid until March 31, 2010.

The FLO TV device provides five hours of viewing time and 300 hours on standby, and includes a built-in viewing stand and integrated stereo speakers.

Qualcomm announced the plans for the device at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment conference in October.
