Michelle Wie's first victory on the LPGA Tour drew Golf Channel's second-biggest audience with the circuit. The much-hyped Wie finally sank her initial victory on the women's tour at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, with the final round on Sunday Nov. 15 notching a 0.72 average for Golf Channel, according to Nielsen data. That made its Golf's second-highest-rated LPGA Tournament round on the network this year and the second-most-watched women's telecast on any cable network this year, trailing only the 0.93 mark for Golf's Day 3 coverage of the 2009 Solheim Cup on Aug. 23.
The final round coverage of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational represented a 60% jump from the final round of the tourney in 2008 and is double the typical final-round numbers for LPGA events on Golf, according to network officials.
On the men's side, Golf averaged a 0.36 final-round rating for the PGA Tour's Children's Miracle Network Classic, up 18% from the same competition in 2008.
