SCTE Lays Off Two VPs

Swann, Games Will Leave Cable Professional Association

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 11/19/2009 3:20:59 PM

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers has laid off two executives -- Deb Swann, vice president of marketing and business development, and Louise Games, vice president of membership services -- with the organization saying it is "realigning" its core engineering mission.

Neither Swann nor Games replied to requests for comment. According to an SCTE source, an administrative assistant also was let go.

In a statement, SCTE said: "It's always tough to part ways with employees, but SCTE is realigning to place significantly greater focus on the core engineering activities that the cable industry requires. The ultimate goal is to consolidate all outreach to the cable technology community, and move additional resources into the engineering sector."

SCTE last month wrapped its flagship annual event, Cable-Tec Expo in Denver, which drew 9,000 attendees. That was a decrease of 18% from last year's record-setting turnout of 11,000 in Philadelphia.

Swann, before joining SCTE in January 2007, spent almost 30 years at Verizon Communications and its predecessor companies before accepting an early retirement package in 2004. In her final position at the telco, she was president of Verizon TeleProducts, its telecommunications-equipment-sales subsidiary.

Games joined the trade group in August 2007. Previously she was at the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, where she had been vice president of marketing and membership since August 1995.

Exton, Penn.-based SCTE currently has approximately 13,000 members, down from more than 15,000 in early 2007.
