History's 'WW In HD' Hits Home With Viewers

Five-Part Project Averages 2.4 Million Nightly Viewers

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 11/23/2009 6:06:04 PM

History's premiere of WWII in HD blew up big with viewers.
Airing on five consecutive nights from Nov. 14 through Nov. 19, WWII in HD averaged a 2.0 household rating and 2.4 million total viewers for each of the two-hour telecasts, according to Nielsen data.
The project, which bowed from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. over that five-night span, also garnered 970,000 adults 25 to 54 and 840,000 adults 18 to 40, according to History officials, who said more than 24.1 million viewers screened at least a portion of the special.
With original, color footage, never before seen by most Americans, the 10-hour series is narrated by Emmy Award winner Gary Sinise (CSI: NY).
Gauged against History's primetime average, WWII in HD scored gains of 122% in ratings (0.9), 100% in viewers (1.2 million), 55% among adults 18 to 49 (542,000), 64% among adults 25 to 54 (593,000), 73% among males 18 to 49 (639,000 versus 370,000) and 82% with guys 25 to 54 (730,000 versus 402,000)
