Ted Turner will give a Cable Mavericks lecture at The Cable Center in Denver on Wednesday, Dec. 9, the center said.

The event will be at the Cable Center's Center Theater from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The Turner Broadcasting founder will reflect on his career and provide insights on the cable industry with area college students.

Ted TurnerTed TurnerTurner built a portfolio of unrivaled cable television news and entertainment brands and businesses, including CNN, CNN Headline News, CNN International, TNT, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, Castle Rock Entertainment and New Line Cinema.

In October 1996, the company merged with Time Warner Inc., and in 2001 Time Warner merged with AOL to create AOL Time Warner. The company later changed its name back to Time Warner Inc.

Currently, Turner is co-chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a charitable organization working to reduce the global threats from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons; chairman of the Turner Foundation, which supports efforts for improving air and water quality, developing a sustainable energy future to protect the earth's climate, safeguarding environmental health, maintaining wildlife habitat protection, and developing practices and policies to curb population growth rates; chairman of the United Nations Foundation, which promotes a more peaceful, prosperous and just world; and a partner in the Ted's Montana Grill restaurant chain, which operates more than 55 locations nationwide.

He is also chairman of Turner Enterprises, which manages his business interests, land holdings and investments, including the oversight of two million acres in 12 states and in Argentina, and more than 50,000 bison head.

Professor Michael P. Smith, executive director of the Media Management Center at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, will interview Turner during his Cable Mavericks lecture.

The Cable Mavericks lecture series was developed by the Cable Center in 2005 and serves as a direct channel in educating and encouraging students to explore careers in the cable telecommunications industry. The series is supported by a significant donation from the Motorola Foundation.
