TV One Acquires Off-Net Rights To `Lincoln Heights'

TV One To Pair 'Lincoln Heights, `A Different World'  Weeknights Beginning Jan. 25

by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 1/19/2010 3:03:18 PM

TV One has acquired off-network rights to the ABC Family drama series Lincoln Heights, TV One officials said Tuesday.

As part of the deal, the network will air the first four seasons of the series - which follows an African-American policeman who moves his family back into his old urban neighborhood -- beginning Jan. 25, said TV One.

TV One also has rights to air a potential fifth season, although ABC Family has yet to greenlight a fifth season for the series -- the only drama on broadcast or cable television featuring a predominantly African-American cast. ABC Family officials said that it will announce its series renewal slate in late January.
The network will air Lincoln Heights weeknights at 11 p.m. following two episodes of the 1990s comedy sitcom A Different World, the rights to which the network acquired in a separate deal. The series, a spinoff of NBC's The Cosby Show, follows a group of students attending fictional historically black university Hillman College. A Different World aired for six seasons on NBC.
"We're delighted to bring these series to the TV One weeknight lineup," said TV One President and CEO Johnathan Rodgers. "A Different World is a beloved comedy that should be right at home with the rest of TV One's comedy lineup, and Lincoln Heights is the kind of quality drama that we think will really resonate with our viewers."
