TNT Greenlights Three Scripted Series

Spielberg, Dreamworks To produce Alien Invasion Drama

by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 1/21/2010 7:45:39 PM

TNT will add three new scripted series to its lineup over the next two years that will increase to 10 its original series portfolio, the network said Thursday.
The three new series - all of which have 10 episode orders -- include an as yet named alien-invasion series from Steven Spielberg; an offbeat drama series dubbed Delta Blues; and crime drama Rizzoli & Isles (working title), according to said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).
"We're very happy with the quality and performance of our original programming, and we're excited to be expanding our horizons with these excellent new shows," Wright said. "These three series - ranging from science-fiction to a quirky drama to a gripping crime procedural - are wide ranging in their appeal and subject matter. They're rich in character, with great performances and engaging stories. And with their emphasis on relatable, everyday heroes, they're a great fit with our lineup."
The Spielberg/DreamWorks Television series, which will debut on the network in 2011, stars Noah Wyle (ER) as the leader of a rag-tag group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force.
Delta Blues, set for a 2010 debut, stars Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) and Alfre Woodard (Three Rivers) and is produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov's Smokehouse Pictures and Warner Horizon Television.
Also scheduled for a 2010 premiere is Rizzoli & Isles, a crime drama based on Tess Gerritsen's popular mystery novels that stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander.
