MTV Returns 'Jersey Shore' For Second Season

Housemates WIll Relocate Outside Northeast During 12-Episode Campaign

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 1/30/2010 10:06:17 AM

There will be more from the Jersey Shore, just not from the Garden State.
MTV has ordered a 12-episode second season of the docuseries that will premiere in summer 2010, according to network officials, with the housemates moving outside the northeast.
The program, which ranked as cable top original series among MTV's target demo of persons 12 to 34, gained notoriety -- and Nielsens -- when female cast member Snooki took a punch to the jaw from a guy and some complained against its depiction of young adult Italian-Americans.
The first season- finale on Jan. 21 broke series records, delivering a 4.8 rating against the aforementioned demo to rank first for the day across all TV competition. That show averaged 4.8 million total viewers, while serving as a strong lead-in for the reunion show that followed immediately and rang up a 4.0 with the 12-to-34 set and 4 million watchers in all.
In addition to Snooki, who later got beat up by a girl, Pauly D, Mike ("The Situation"), Jenni, Sammi, Ronnie and Vinny will all be back for the sophomore run from the new locale.
"Our audience has fallen in love with Jersey Shore and its amazing cast who have really grown together as a family. That bond gives the show its heart, and we're thrilled to reunite these friends to bring fans more of what they love -- laughs, love, drama and of course, GTL," said Tony DiSanto, president of programming for MTV, in announcing the pick-up.
Fans can catch up on the complete first season as MTV airs the "Jersey Bowl" marathon, beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) on Feb. 7, Super Bowl Sunday.
Meanwhile, "Jersey Shore The Complete Season One Uncensores DVD" is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
