Comcast, augmenting its business-services portfolio, plans to acquire New Global Telecom, which provides managed voice-over-IP services to service providers.
The deal was reported Tuesday by VON, and confirmed by Comcast. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a statement, Comcast said, "NGT is an innovative company that has expertise, in developing, deploying, and managing voice and unified communications services that we plan to make available to our business services customers. Doing so will not only enhance the services we offer today, but will also enable us to deliver them more quickly and cost effectively."
NGT's investors include Comcast Interactive Capital, Centennial Ventures, Columbia Capital, and ICG Communications.
Golden, Colo.-based NGT claims to be the largest provider of wholesale hosted and trunk-based VoIP solutions in the U.S. The company's voice services provide PBX-style features such as auto attendants and hunt groups, as well as unified messaging, audio and Web conferencing, and desktop application integration.
NGT was founded in 1996, primarily as a wholesale voice provider serving customers that included AT&T and New Zealand Telecom. The company has 98 employees, according to Hoover's information database.
In another deal to boost its business services holdings, Comcast in October acquired CIMCO Communications, a 165-employee telecommunications company that provides service to about 2,300 companies in the Chicago area.
Comcast is scheduled to release fourth quarter 2009 results on Wednesday.
