VH1 Classic Celebrates The Who's Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Performance

Network Devotes 12 Hours On Super Bowl Sunday To Legendary British Band

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 2/7/2010 9:28:10 AM

For those who may have more than a passing interest in the halftime act of Super Bowl XLIV, VH1 Classic has you covered until The Who takes the stage on CBS's telecast of the NFL championship game.
For a dozen hours on Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 7 beginning at 11 a.m., VH1 Classic will honor The Who, beginning with The Who's Back, which examined the band in the studio where they recorded "Real Good Looking Boy" with acclaimed bassist Greg Lake and their most recent album Endless Wire.
At 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., the network's Classic Albums franchise puts Who's Next under the spotlight. Guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend revisits his original demos, while Roger Daltrey talks about the difficulty of relying on pre-recorded segments during live shows. Townshend performs a version of "Pure and Easy" for the first time in 20 years.
Six Quick Ones: The Who, bowing at 12:30 p.m. is a six-part film that integrated sessions with individual members of the band and links to the Mod and Pop movements, while showcasing the group's music.
As part of its Classic In Concert series, VH1 Classic gives fans a chance to check out The Who Live at the Isle of Wight twice -- at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The concert, taking place at 2 a.m. on Aug. 30, 1970 before some 600,000, is one of The Who's top performances.
Teeing up a sister service staple, VH1 Classic will replay VH1 Rock Honors: The Who at 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. The band was feted by renditions of their songs by Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips and Incubus, before Townshend and Daltrey crashed the stage at UCLA Pauley Pavilion on July 12, 2008; the show premiered on VH1 five days later.
