Sportvision, Cisco Provide Enhanced Looks At Super Bowl XLIV

1st And Ten Provider Puts Additional Technology On Display For Super Bowl Inside Sun Life Stadium

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 2/7/2010 9:56:47 AM

Those lucky enough to be in Miami's Sun Life Stadium for Super Bowl XLIV won't only get to see the action unfold before their eyes, but will get other visuals the millions around the world won't see on their televisions, courtesy of Cisco and Sportvision.

Cisco StadiumVision and Cisco TelePresence will use leading-edge technologies to light up the 1,500 high-definition displays inside stadium concourses and luxury suites on two channels. As part of the StadiumVision telecast, Sportvision and Cisco are combining their assets to deliver new forms of content to all stadium displays, notably the Yellow 1st & Ten Line, a staple of today's football telecasts, Down & Distance, Synthetic Video and Feature Tracker technologies.
The first channel will display live effects seen on the network broadcast, including the Yellow 1st & Ten Line and Down & Distance graphics, while the second feed, "the replay channel," integrates Sportvision's Feature Tracker & Synthetic Video effects, offering replays of key plays throughout the game.
Feature Tracker is an advanced tracking and data gathering tool, underscoring Sportvision's Yellow 1st & Ten Line technology, by combining a 2-D graphic with 3-D player trails, delivering fans with relevant performance data, such as a player's speed, total distance traveled, separation distance from other players.
The Synthetic Video System essentially recreates replays in a full 360 degrees virtual environment, enabling fans to see a key play from multiple angles, revealing how a play developed and breakdowns in coverage via an elaboration of its Xs and Os.
"We are excited to collaborate with Cisco and combine our assets to deliver an enriched experience for all fans that will be attending the Super Bowl," said Sportvision CEO Hank Adams in a stadium."While our graphics have become part of the fabric of network telecasts, this marks the first time that fans in venue will be treated to this level of compelling game content."
Noted David Holland, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco Sports and Entertainment Solutions Group: "The collaboration between Sportvision and Cisco StadiumVision further demonstrates how video is transforming fan experiences and opening up new revenue streams. A key benefit of the Cisco StadiumVision platform is the extensibility that innovative companies like Sportvision can leverage to create more value for fans, properties and potential sponsors."
