Motorola Ventures joined a financing round for Zenverge, a developer of advanced media integrated circuits that is targeting whole-home DVR and multiscreen applications.
The amount of funding was not disclosed. Other existing investors, DCM and Norwest Venture Partners, also participated in the round.
Zenverge's media chips support transcoding, decoding and encoding of multiple formats for up to four simultaneous HD streams. Earlier this week at the CableLabs Winter Conference, Zenverge demonstrated its single-chip solution that uses a remote user interface embedded in video.
"At Motorola, we aim to accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences so people can access, share and enjoy multi-media anywhere, both at home and on the go," Motorola Ventures managing director Reese Schroeder said in a statement. "Zenverge is implementing the critical technology that will provide consumer access to HD media content at each point in the converged digital video chain."
Cupertino, Calif.-based Zenverge was founded in 2005. The Zenverge user interface is virtualized in a central gateway or server and inserted into each video stream, so that all display devices -- including those in the field -- can deliver the same look and feel without separate middleware or application software. Additionally, the chip can transform live or recorded content to fit the decode and to display capabilities of each screen and the available network bandwidth at any given time.
