Ensequence will help Verizon FiOS and Dish Network subscribers get more out of the Vancouver Games.
The New York-based interactive developer is supporting NBC Universal's coverage of the Winter Olympics via interactive partnerships with the top telco video provider and the No. 2 DBS operator.
Nationwide, Verizon FiOS TV subscribers will have instant access to interactive TV content throughout the Olympics, which start with the opening ceremony on Feb 12 and extend through month's end. By responding to the on-screen trigger with their remote controls, FiOS TV subscribers can access content about Olympic sports and athletes as well as updates on scores, Olympic news and medal counts.
Verizon's interactive television experience is based on the Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format, supported by the cable industry and which is capable of running on all of the telco's set-top boxes.
As for Dish, Ensequence officials said the company developed the satellite operator's NBC Olympics Showcase, which resides on DishHome on channel 100. There, interactive elements connect with live programming as viewers will be able to check out athlete profiles and late-breaking news, as well as track nations' medal counts and see the team USA Report. Additionally, Dish subs can view video highlights of the day's events, explore Vancouver and its various Games venues and learn more about each Olympic sport.
"NBCU has always been a market leader in providing interactive television to their viewers," said Ensquence president and CEO Peter Low in a statement. "We're pleased to offer an exciting interactive TV viewing experience for NBC Universal's coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics to audiences on FiOS TV and Dish Network."
