NBC's presentation of the Olympics dominated the TV landscape Friday night.
The Peacock's coverage of the Vancouver Games on Feb 26 averaged 24.5 million, more than double that of the combined delivery of 11 million for CBS, Fox and ABC, according to Nielsen data.
That total was 54% higher than the 15.9 million who tuned in the final Friday night from the Torino Winter Olympics in 2006, said NBC officials. The national household rating of 13.9/24 for Friday night was 43% higher than the 9.7/17 for the comparable night from Torino.
Over the first 15 days from Vancouver, NBC posted a 14.0/23 average, 12% above 12.5/20 for the similar span in 2006. The 2010 Olympics averaged 24.7 million watchers, a 19% increase from 20.8 million from the 2006 Games.
All told, 183 million Americans have watched the Vancouver Olympics on the networks of NBC Universal through 15 days of the Games, 5 million more than 178 million who watched 15 days of the 2006 Winter Games.
