Time Warner Cable Gives Big Apple Subs Taste Of Wi-Fi
Offers Reciprocal Access To Cablevision Wi-Fi Network

Time Warner Cable this week launched Wi-Fi wireless Internet service in select New York City parks and commuter stations, provided to its 1 million broadband residential customers in the region for no additional cost, as the cable operator looks to fight for share with Verizon's FiOS Internet.
In addition, Time Warner Cable is partnering with Cablevision Systems, which began building out Wi-Fi access points in 2008, to give Time Warner Cable's New York-area subscribers access to thousands of Optimum Wi-Fi locations throughout Cablevision's service area in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.Under the reciprocal arrangement, Cablevision's customers will have access to Time Warner Cable Wi-Fi zones.

Time Warner Cable Wi-Fi is now available at several Wi-Fi zones set up in Bryant Park, Madison Square Park and 79th Street Boat Basin in Manhattan, and at four parks in Queens: Bowne Park and Kissena Park in Flushing, Baisley Pond Park and Railroad Park in Jamaica.
In addition, TWC provides service at eight commuter rail platforms on the Long Island Railroad's Port Washington line: Woodside, Flushing Main Street, Murray Hill, Broadway, Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.
"This free new Wi-Fi option adds another dimension for Road Runner customers, bringing even more convenience," said Howard Szarfarc, executive vice president of Time Warner Cable's New York City region. "Road Runner customers can experience a fast, simple and easy connection from their laptops or portable Wi-Fi-enabled devices in Time Warner Cable Wi-Fi zones, meeting their growing need for mobility."

Verizon, for its part, provides access to thousands of Wi-Fi hot spots operated nationwide by Boingo Wireless to FiOS Internet users who subscribe to a plan with download speeds up to 20 Mbps or higher.
Separately, Time Warner Cable is an investor in and partner of Clearwire, which expects to launch WiMax broadband wireless service in New York City sometime in late 2010.
Time Warner Cable's New York City service area includes Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, parts of the Hudson Valley region, and Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey.
