Nick Draws 7.6 Million With 'Kids Choice Awards'

Performance Is Second-Best In Event's History; Serves As Strong Lead-In For 'Victorious' Debut

Kevin James is a big guy and as host of Nickelodeon's 23rd Annual Kids' Choice Awards, the show enjoyed its second biggest performance ever with the Nielsens. The Kids Choice Awards also provided a strong Saturday night lead-in for the bow of original series Victorious, which became the kids network's second-best, live-action debut.
The March 27 premiere of the KCAs averaged 7.6 million total viewers from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the second best in the event's 23-year history, according to Nielsen data, behind the 2009 show's 7.7 million. Among kids 2 to 11, the March 27 show notched a 10.5 rating, translating into 3.7 million of those viewers.
This year's KCAs was followed by the debut of Victorious at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT), which averaged 5.7 million total viewers and now stands as the second biggest live-action series premiere in Nickelodeon's history behind only Big Time Rush. That program, which benefited from the Jan. 18 iCarly episode, entitled "iCarly's iSaved Your Life" that drew a franchse-best 11.2 million viewers, averaged 6.8 million watchers that night.

Nickelodeon's 23rd Annual KCAs featured First Lady Michelle Obama, who received the first-ever Big Help Award, presented by Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) and Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP); slimings for Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Steve Carell (The Office), and singer/songwriter Katy Perry.
Also included were of Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire ,The Last Airbender); Cory Monteith (Glee); Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga, Last Airbender); Lea Michele (Glee); Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender); the cast of Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush; Lily Collins (The Blind Side); Winter Olympic gold medalists Apolo Ohno and Shaun White; Justice (Victorious); and George Lopez. The show also showcased musical performances by Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
