Canoe Ventures, the advanced-advertising joint venture of the six largest U.S. cable operators, on Monday announced the formation of an 11-person advisory board comprised of advertising-industry professionals.
The New York-based firm appointed Jim Garrity, founded and CEO of marketing consultancy Bellwether Digital Bridge, to be chairman of the Canoe Ventures Advisory Board. Garrity has also held sales and marketing leadership positions for companies including IBM, Compaq and First Union.
"To build this board, and ultimately achieve our vision, we reached out to a select group of extraordinary people who represent a depth and breadth of knowledge across a range of disciplines," Canoe CEO David Verklin said in a statement. "As Canoe leverages the combined resources of our founding partners to introduce and scale cable's advanced advertising solutions, we look forward to the Board's insights to help drive development of products and services that will accelerate the evolution of television."
Canoe expects to commercially launch its first product, which will let advertisers place interactive requests for information to digital cable TV viewers, by mid-2010. The company is planning to double its staff in 2010 -- growing headcount from 68 to 135 -- and is set to move into bigger offices in Manhattan next month.
Other members of the advisory board are:
-- Vicki Lins, Canoe chief marketing officer, who was named vice chairman of the advisory board;
-- Wendy Clark, senior vice president, integrated marketing, communications and capabilities for The Coca-Cola Co.;
-- Beth Comstock, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for GE;
-- David Droga, founder and creative chairman of Droga5;
-- Mark Kvamme, partner with Sequoia Capital;
-- Bob Liodice, president and CEO of the Association of National Advertisers;
-- Wes Nichols, co-founder and CEO of MarketShare Partners;
-- Mike Pohl, CEO of Jinni Media;
-- Gokul Rajaram, co-founder and CEO of Chai Labs; and
-- George Wiedemann, CEO of UMarketing.
Canoe was incorporated in 2008. Its owners are Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Cablevision Systems, Charter Communications and Bright House Networks.
