Epix Gains Dish Deal

Movie Service Will Be Available To DBS Provider's 14.1 Million Homes

Epix is going national.
The joint venture movie service of Viacom's Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lionsgate, has secured a carriage contract with Dish Network that will make its content available to the No. 2 DBS provider's 14.1 million subscribers, beginning this month.
Terms of the deal, other than the service will be available in both the standard- and high-definition formats, were not disclosed. Pricing and positioning information could not be obtained by press time.
Previously, Epix had inked carriage agreements with six distributors: Verizon's FiOS TV, Cox, Charter, Mediacom and the National Cable Television Cooperative that will make the service available to consumers in over 30 million homes by May 2010.
"Partnering with Epix underscores our ongoing commitment to deliver the very best in HD entertainment to our customers," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of programming for Dish in a statement. "Epix is an important part of our increased HD channel offering and strong expansion of our movie lineup. Dish Network subscribers will now have access to exclusive programming and movie content in HD that can be found only on Epix"

Noted Epix president and CEO Mark Greenberg: "Teaming with Dish Network to make Epix available to its more than 14 million satellite TV customers is a major step forward for us as we expand our national footprint. Dish Network is committed to delivering the very best in HD entertainment, and recognizes that Epix is an important part of that experience."

In addition to a linear channel, Epix offers on-demand service and online service at www.EpixHD.com, offering consumers over 200 films and original programming each month. Additionally, the enhanced service, Epix Megaplex, delivers over more than 3,000 films at anytime and anywhere.

Epix movie and entertainment offerings that will be available to Dish customers include Academy Award winners Precious (Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay) and The Cove (Best Documentary), blockbusters Star Trek and GI Joe, the cult hit Paranormal Activity, Tyler Perry's highly successful film franchise - Madea Goes to Jail and I Can Do Bad All by Myself, plus music and comedy all-star specials like Madonna Sticky & Sweet: Live from Buenos Aires and The Black Eyed Peas: The E.N.D. World Tour 2010.
