Cable Show 2010: Mixed Signals Tracks Interactive TV Apps

Vendor's Sentry System Adds EBIF-Monitoring Features

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 5/4/2010 5:49:48 AM

Monitoring-systems vendor Mixed Signals claims it has a solution to let cable operators ensure clickable TV ads or interactive programming elements will work as expected.

The vendor has expanded its digital-video monitoring solution to be able to monitor interactive TV apps based on the CableLabs Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) specification.

Mixed Signals claims its Sentry product can ensure EBIF-based applications work properly on a wide scale, by verifying that the triggers embedded into program streams execute correctly. According to the company, Sentry is able to simultaneously monitor hundreds of programs, ads and EBIF widgets.

"The revenue potential of EBIF is substantial for cable operators, programmers and advertisers alike, but realizing this potential involves complex interactions between video streams, ads, triggers and associated data that must be performed precisely and on a large scale," Mixed Signals CEO Eric Conley said.

Mixed Signals expects to demo the EBIF-monitoring capabilities in the CableNET pavilion at The Cable Show in Los Angeles, May 11-13.

The Sentry system also provides reporting features to identify trends over time, storing up to 60 days of data, according to El Segundo, Calif.-based Mixed Signals.

Mixed Signals says eight of the top 10 U.S. cable operators use the Sentry solution, including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Cablevision Systems and Charter Communications.
