Cable Show 2010: Verizon FiOS To Launch 'TV Everywhere' With Time Warner Inc.

Telco Also Working on Video Services With Fox News, CBS, MTVN, Others

Verizon Communications and Time Warner Inc. will provide FiOS TV customers unlimited access to TV content from TNT and TBS over the Internet starting in June, the companies announced here Wednesday at The Cable Show 2010.

The content from the Turner Broadcasting System networks includes programs like The Closer, Southland, Leverage and Lopez Tonight free of charge within 24 hours after an episode's airing on live television. Programs will be available in "HD video quality."

"TNT and TBS will now be available online to FiOS subscribers at no added cost. In less than a year, we've been able to launch our vision of delivering TV Everywhere to nearly 20 million customers nationwide."

Later in 2010, Turner expects to provide content form additional networks. Verizon and Time Warner Inc. announced their plans to test out TV Everywhere with TNT and TBS last August.

Meanwhile, Verizon also said it is working with a other content providers to soon deliver additional online video programming, including Fox News, CBS, MTV Networks, Hallmark Channel, Smithsonian Channel and Tennis Channel.

The telco already offers Time Warner's HBO Go to FiOS subscribers, as well as a similar online service from premium movie channel Epix.

FiOS customers who subscribe to both FiOS TV and FiOS Internet will be able to watch the programs on PCs or laptops -- over any broadband connection. Subscribers will log in using their Verizon Online user names and passwords, at either www.verizon.com/fiostvonline or soon-to-be launched TNT and TBS Web sites. Once FiOS customers successfully signs in, they won't need to sign in again for up to 30 days.

"Consumers want to access video any time, any place, and Verizon continues to expand our high-quality entertainment services, providing FiOS customers with access and control," Verizon chief marketing officer Mike Ritter said in a statement. "We will continue to work with companies like Time Warner and other early adopters to remain a leader in delivering the best content over the best network."

Verizon has been video content online to FiOS and DSL broadband customers since 2005. The telco has deals with Starz Play, ESPN3, Disney Connection and YES Network to distribute content online.
