Avail-TVN: 'The Hangover' Most-Watched VOD Film Of All Time
'Twilight,' 'Alvin & Chipmunks' Make List

Adult comedy film The Hangover is the most watched video on demand movie of all time, according to a report announced Wednesday by VOD content distributor Avail-TVN.The top 20 list, which was referenced during the Multichannel News On Demand Summit 2.0 conference today and is based on a national sample of more than 14 million homes, also includes the 2008 vampire flick Twilight which finished second, and 2008 Clint Eastwood-produced drama Grand Torino, which took the third spot. Romantic comedies Four Christmases and The Proposal round out the top 5, according to the company.
All the movies on the list debuted on VOD between 2007 and 2009, illustrating the recent growth and popularity of the category, according to Avail-TVN. Of the 20 movies on the list, 11 were available via VOD on the day the movie was released on DVD, while 14 of the 20 were released theatrically in 2008 or later. Complete data from 2010 VOD releases were not available and are not included in the list."The fact that the movies on the top 20 list are so recent illustrates the growth of the movies on demand category and highlights the shift in studio release strategies to better meet consumer demands," said Doug Sylvester, Chief Strategy Officer, Avail-TVN in a statement "Strong VOD movie performance is continuing in 2010 and we expect to see three or four new additions to the top 10 list this year. VOD is emerging as a key channel for digital media delivery."
