Eurocinema Secures On-Demand Deal With Comcast

International Movie Service Lauches On MSO's Systems In Philadelphia, Washington, D.C.

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 8/12/2010 4:53:39 PM

Eurocinema has reached a deal to bring its international films to Comcast customers via the on-demand platform.
Eurocinema On Demand is now available to Comcast customers in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and will be switched on in the MSO's other markets over the course of the next year, according to the parties.

Deal terms were not disclosed.

With the Comcast bow, Eurocinema, which is also offered via IP TV, is now accessible in some 31 million homes in North America through affiliate pacts with Time Warner Cable, Charter, Cablevision, RCN, Verizon, Dish and DirecTV.
Beginning this month, the top distributor's subscribers can access the international film purveyor's fare on Comcast On Demand, under the Movies and Indies/Foreign categories. The titles cost $4.95.
Eurocinema will offer up to 15 award-winning titles from Western and Eastern Europe with four to five new titles each month on Comcast On Demand; each feature is flanked by a short. The offering includes a combination of movies, with works by legendary directors and the best of world film titles -- most never before seen in the U.S. and Canada
"Eurocinema On Demand brings viewers some of the best independent cinema from around the world," said Diana Kerekes, vice president of entertainment services for Comcast, in a statement.  "We are excited to provide our customers even more of the films they want to watch, but can't catch at their local movie theaters."
Added Eurocinema co-founder, chairman and CEO Sebastien Perioche: "Launching on Comcast marks a major milestone in Eurocinema's evolution. This offering will bring film enthusiasts easy access to a diverse selection of unique European and international box office movies."
