GSN Unpacks ‘Baggage' Bits Featuring Perez Hilton

Online Segments Support Jerry Springer Series

by MCN Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/19/2010 3:47:52 PM

GSN has recruited Perez Hilton to support Baggage, the Jerry Springer series that is the network's top-rated original show.

"Perez Hilton's Baggage Report" is a short-form series of online and on-air digital segments in which the celebrity blogger "checks" the baggage of the show's contestants-while simultaneously putting them in check. Done in the style of a faux newscast, Hilton will host eight weekly segments highlighting some of the best and worst baggage featured in season two of the series, which debuted this past Monday (Aug. 16). Hilton provides commentary on the contestants and their baggage in his own special way.

"Perez Hilton's Baggage Report" can be found at this link, this link and at perezhilton.com. Shorter versions of the report will also air on GSN.

GSN has also opened the doors of "The Springer Institute for Baggage Research" at this GSNtv.com link. It's a Kinsey Institute-inspired faux research center, where serious baggage scholars will find a variety of eye-opening hypotheses, studies, polls, clinical trials and statistics -- while taking quizzes, voting, tweeting or unpacking their own baggage.

"The Springer Institute for Baggage Research" allows students to delve deeply into the darkest forms of people's psychological baggage, in categories such as Quirks, Hygiene, Phobias, Sex, Finance, Habits, Relationships or Family.

On each half-hour episode of Baggage, Springer guides the fun as one dater chooses among three contestants who reveal the intimate secrets and hidden flaws that are typically kept under wraps to impress a first date. Each contestant enters with three suitcases -- small, medium and large -- containing the quirky, annoying and sometimes truly shocking "baggage" that may or may not eliminate the contestants from competition, to the accompaniment of the dater's tagline, "I'm sorry, but you have too much baggage."
