Tennis Channel will serve up its second year of live U.S. Open tennis coverage starting Monday and its views will be available to some 55 million homes.
The dedicated tennis and lifestyle service is making its feed available as a free preview during its two weeks of coverage in around the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow, N.Y. The independent service has secured wider berths with cable, satellite and telco providers that will essentially double its sub base.

U.S. OpenAt press time, the distributors that had committed to the freeview include: Comcast (South Florida, Atlanta and Augusta, Ga.); Time Warner Cable (Los Angeles, North and South Carolina); DirecTV and Dish Network; Verizon FiOS; AT&T U-verse; Cox (Arizona);  RCN (New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Bosto, Washington, D.C. and Lehigh Valley); Bright House Networks (Michigan); GCI (Anchorage); and Liberty Cablevision (Puerto Rico).

Those viewers checking out the free preview, as well as the service's 27 million regular subscribers, will be able to see 73 hours of live matches.
Also featuring encores and extensive highlights, Tennis is scheduled to air some 234 hours of Open telecasts, via its nearly round-the-clock "Grounds Pass" coverage over the fortnight from Aug. 30 through Sept. 12.

During the week of Sept. 12, Tennis will run replays of the men's, women's singles and doubles finals and the mixed doubles final.
