Time Warner Cable, Disney Continue To Negotiate As Contract Expires

Programming Remains On No. 2 Cable Operator's Air As Discussions Pass Midnight Deadline

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 9/2/2010 12:20:57 AM

Executives at Time Warner Cable and The Walt Disney Co. continued to negotiate Thursday morning, with all programming remaining on the No. 2 cable operator's air.
The carriage contract was set to expire at 12:01 on Sept. 2. As of 6 a.m. on Thursday, a spokeswoman for the No. 2 cable operator indicated that the parties were still immersed in discussions.
Over the last weekend, the parties reported that they had made "significant progress" and the focus was on a "successful conclusion" to their contract negotiations.
Officials from both companies continued to refer to those remarks and expressed similar sentiments through Wednesday.
The comprehensive renewal discussions cover retransmission-consent for five ABC-owned TV stations; pricing for top tier cable networks as ESPN and Disney Channel; the launch of the Disney Jr., the preschool network set to launch next year on the distribution backbone of SoapNet; and broadband portal ESPN3.com securing a berth on the MSO's Roadrunner ISP, among other properties.
