DirecTV Unwraps Slew Of 3D Titles, Specials For December, January

DBS Believes Content Will Drive 3DTV Set Purchases This Holiday Season

DirecTV is making a dozen 3D films available during December and January, plus an array of content in the enhanced format.
Beginning in December, the n3D and DirecTV Cinema services will offer The Last Airbender 3D, Step Up, Disney's A Christmas Carol 3D, Bolt 3D, Chicken Little 3D and Scar 3D for $6.99 apiece, with library fare in the format priced at $4.99 per title.
Come January, Despicable Me 3D, Shrek Forever After 3D, Saw VII 3D, Alpha & Omega 3D, Meet the Robinsons 3D and Grand Canyon: River at Risk 3D will be available.
"With up to a dozen of the most popular 3D movies available on DirecTV and ‘Black Friday' right around the corner, there is no better time for consumers to put that 3DTV set at the top of their holiday shopping list," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, content strategy and development of DirecTV, in announcing the fresh film lineup. "Experiencing a Hollywood feature film in 3D in the home is truly the essence of what 3DTV technology was made for, and now DirecTV customers can share this new phenomenon with their whole family right in their living room."
In addition to the 3D movie lineup, DirecTV will also offer exclusive access to the Macy's Presents Jessica Simpson: Happy Christmas Special and the Vancouver 2010 - Stories of Olympic Glory documentary, starting this December on n3D, powered by Panasonic.
The Macy's Presents Jessica Simpson: Happy Christmas Special is set in the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattanand features guest appearances by singer/songwriter Carly Simon on "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman" with John Forte on guitar, and pop sensation and sister, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, on "Happy Christmas."
The Vancouver 2010 - Stories of Olympic Glory is among the first-ever 3D sports documentaries and the first produced on the Olympic Games. The film features stories from the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games including: the Opening Ceremonies; America's Apolo Ohno in men's short track speed skating; Russia's Yevgeni Pluschenko and USA's Evan Lysacek in men's figure skating; and the story of China's pairs figure skaters, Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, and their coach, Yao Bin.
