Content aggregator Avail-TVN Tuesday announced it will distribute a package of Nigerian-produced films via video on demand as part of a long-term deal with distributor Aso Rock Entertainment.Verizon FiOS has already signed on to distribute the films, making up to 10 hours of "Nollywood" films available on demand for $2.95 each, according to Verizon officials.
"Today's consumers are interested in a wide range of video content, and Verizon strives to meet those interests with a variety of programming," said Terry Denson, vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon in a statement. "We are thrilled to be able to enhance FiOS TV's video-on-demand offering with Aso Rock's Nigerian movie package from our partner, Avail-TVN."
Overall the package includes movies from Nigeria's $250 million movie industry, the third largest producer of films behind the United States and India.
"Avail-TVN is uniquely positioned to enable providers of high quality specialty content like Aso Rock to reach the customers of our affiliates like Verizon," said Avail-TVN's chief revenue officer Jim Riley in a statement. "It illustrates well the power of digital media to provide VOD content previously unavailable and/or difficult for its fans to find."
