E! Scores Most-Watched Red Carpet Coverage Ever With 2011 Oscars

While ABC's telecast sustained audience erosion, E! netted its most-watched red carpet show ever on Sunday night with the Academy Awards prelims.

averaged a 2.76 household rating and 3.86 million watchers from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to Nielsen data. That was up 9% in viewership from last year. E!'s franchise delivered a 1.81 rating among persons 18 to 49,
Countdown to the Red Carpet from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. posted a .74 household rating and 900,000 viewers, up 14% and 19%, respectively, from last year's coverage.
Moreover, The E! After Party from 11:50 p.m.-1:30 a.m. drew a .68 household rating and 825,000 watchers on average.
For its part, ABC easily topped Sunday night with its coverage of the 2011 Oscars, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. From 8:30-11:30 p.m, the 83rd Annual Academy Awards averaged 37.6 million total viewers and an 11.7 rating among persons 18 to 49, according to Nielsen fast national data. That represented a 9% decline in viewership and 12% in the demo.
