Versus To Be Rebranded With NBC Moniker: Ebersol

Name Change To Come In 90 Days

Trumping some of the thunder from its new multimedia rights deal with the NHL, NBC Sports Group chairman Dick Ebersol said he was about 90 days away from announcing a new name for national cable sports network Versus.

Ebersol, speaking on a conference call announcing a new deal with the NHL, said the new name would "have a strong utilization of NBC in the title."

The rechristening of Versus was expected and was discussed after Comcast concluded the acquisition of the majority stake in NBC Universal in late January. The restructuring of NBC Sports Group was announced several days thereafter.
